Just watched the very first episode of Bonanza. Wow!
I love Bonanza the bits. Every episode seems like a film.
The television series 'Bonanza' is very highly regarded as far as TV series go. But if you pay attention to the scripts, it becomes apparent (at least to me) that some of the episodes in this series were written with the intention of 'setting' public opinion on various issues.
Theodore Sturgeon was a great science-fiction writer who made what has come to be known as Sturgeon's Observation:"90% of anything is ****."When it comes to television, the percentage is closer to 99%.
You know, I've only seen the episode Forever once! in this episode Hoss has been dead now for at LEAST a few weeks, why I find this so sad is that Pernell Roberts(Adam) didn't even come to the funeral, and you know there had to be one,you would think Pernel Roberts would have at least would have wanted to make an appearance at the funeral, Ill admit I missed seeing him in all the episodes, the man had no idea just how big of a legend Bonanza would become, I mean im a major fan of both Bonanza AND Gunsmoke, as far as im concerned there both tied at #1 in my book, im sorry guys I just don't get it and just don't understand why he didn't at least make a cameo guest starring appearance, its just so sad, I mean Hoss was loved!
This show is probably the most fabricated western in television history. The fact that it ran for many years proves nothing except that American western TV show tastes are not very demanding.
What a stroke of luck the western series Bonanza has been, in fact a bonanza in itself. It was created and began running just as television was peaking enormously in the US.
Bonanza was an awesome show, that really was ahead of its time(sometimes a bit too much, in its revisions of history). It featured some black and Asian ppl, and many other groups as a part of the magnificent tapestry of the West, and touched on many exciting frontier topics.
I am currently 55 and my twin sons are 14 at the time this post was made in July 2015. Bonanza has been a family bonding experience for us.
