Checkmate

Old movies (and new ones for that matter!) exist in a perpetual present yet often represent the interaction of representatives of completely different eras.

Much better than the average crime caper, this one, and it is odd - and refreshing -to see Donald Wolfit out of his more theatrical guise. An undercover policeman takes up lodgings with a family suspected of involvement in series of jewellery heists.

Directors who cannot fact check simple things like what is checkmate in scenes, who cannot insist on basic standards don't deserve their movie to be watched.

OK, so I'm a chess player, which is why I watched this. And I did manage to watch the entire thing, a towering achievement.

I'll say the same thing another reviewer said - I don't have a problem with the F bomb if we're going for gritty realism. But every other word?

...as well as the worst amateurish acting.

Checkmate is an exciting action thriller that keeps you engaged from start to finish. This movie is well shot, and has amazing drone footage.

Good movie. Plot is well constructed and keeps you guessing.

With elements of action/thriller/mystery this highstakes film has you on the edge of your seat with a relentless pace that never lets up. The film features some excellent action sequences that put it on par with much higher budget offerings.
