Sad to say it's not the first time that a potentially very interesting documentary series is being banalized and basically destroyed by the style of comments from and way too much appearance by a person who may not be the best choice to lead the viewers. Lucy Worsley is such a person.

To me this "documentary" was more biased, rather than a documentary. On top why would Lucy make faces as if she's considering Russians a lower class nation, as is the typical mindset in Western World?

The way Romanov was pronounced bothered me throughout the 'series'. She kept saying /Románov/ instead of /Rómanov/.

Definitely not for scholars but for those with an armchair interest in this history and those seeking to visit Russia. For example, I was surprised the Potemkin Mutiny during the 1905 uprising was not mentioned.

This show is basically an indictment of the Romanov dynasty. The last Tsar was loved by his people but you wouldn't know that from the "information" this documentary presents.

Many beautiful songs in the documentary, no way to find them.

The series represents especially England as a great inspiration for Peter the a Great. The Dutch, however, are seem to be marginalised.

If you are looking for an exhaustive look at the Romanov dynasty of Russia, then you may want to skip "Empire of the Tsars". While it's a good show, it's not complete and in order to be so, the program would have to include several more episodes.

My husband and I got so tired of Lucy Worsley, and her two red dresses with matching lipstick, that we quit halfway through the second episode. A great commentator is either invisible or compliments the subject.
