Reviews

The series is fantastic. It has brought back many memories of my own class which graduated in 74 but is still closely knit today as we were in school.

Notice that I gave it an 8, despite my headline. I don't judge projects simply by whether I personally like the viewpoint they display.

Series that make you reflect.

Almost too good to be true...I was crushed as the series ended.

The series tells the story of a philosophy professor (Merlí Bergeron) who, after his ex-wife goes to Rome, has to stay with his son Bruno, Merlí is unemployed and lives with his mother (Carminha Calduch), a very actress famous when a job offer appears at the Angel Guímera school, where her son Bruno also studies, there Merlí not only teaches his students about thinkers but also makes them philosophize, to question everything with his teaching methods "different from the standard". In each episode we have the presentation of a philosopher, from the best known as Socrates, Aristotle, Plato, Karl Marx, to philosophers not so well known, such as Judith Butler, Hannah Arendt, among many others.

A great story combined with thinking about our society pitfalls and the need for deep thinking.

After watching the first episode this is what I can say about the main character: In just a couple of days after started teaching he's already the hero of his students without the least effort, he criticized and spoke low of all of his colleagues in the new school he was just appointed to, he proclaimed himself to be the best teacher ever, he revealed to a student what another professor secretly thinks about him leaving the poor boy upset, finally he stole to another colleague (who has done absolutely nothing to him) his girlfriend, just because he's horny and she's beautiful. How did he manage to do it?

This is so bad it may actually create a cult. It is an industrialized version of what we call "vergüenza ajena".

I couldn't watch the first episode without my stomach churning. What a disgusting character of Merlí.
