Douglas was the leading artist of the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s and 1930s. He was the first African-American artist to include African artifacts in his work as a way to demonstrate the continuity of African culture despite slavery.
He reads scripts for people auditioning, in many movie auditions. He often auditions himself, while there, and is often given minor roles as "presents" from the director. He says that in the hours he spends with the directors, in the audition room, the director gets to know him and likes to give him little parts.
Brother of country singer Joey Daniels.
