Dedicated his 1993 Tony award "to Susan" - actress Susan Wright - who died in a house fire two years earlier. At the end of Carvers acceptance speech, he held his award high in defiance proclaiming "death be not proud" in reference, quoting a poem by John Donne. Wright was staying at Carvers own home in Stratford, Ontario (Carver was not present at the time) when a fire broke out that resulted in her death.

(February 2006) Currently starring as Gandalf in the world premiere of the 3 1/2 hour stage adaptation of Tolkiens The Lord Of The Rings at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto.
