When Charlie the Wonderdog (Tom Gleisner s dog) died in real life, Tingwell gave the eulogy. It was then reported in a Queensland newspaper that "Bud" himself had passed away. He soon corrected this mistake.

Bud is a family nickname for Charles Tingwell.

Served with Britains Royal Air Force during WW2, where he flew photo reconnaissance Spitfires in North Africa.

He had two children, son Christopher and daughter Virginia Tingwell , who is also an actress.

He was awarded the A.M. (Member of the Order of Australia) in the 1999 Queens Birthday Honours List for his services to the performing arts as an actor, director, producer, and to the community.

He was given a State Funeral, held in St. Pauls Cathedral in Melbourne.

In the 1960s, formed his own theatre company, Altinger productions, with actors John Alderton and David Butler.

Was very popular in Britain as star of "Emergency-Ward 10" on television, and as the plodding Inspector Craddock, vainly trying to catch up to Miss Marple (Margaret Rutherford ) in four filmed Agatha Christie mysteries, starting with Murder She Said .

Became the youngest radio announcer in Australia, when he was hired by station 2CH in Sydney as a cadet.

Was a Freemason, initiated in Lodge Carinya #719 in Jan 1950, he remained a subscribing Freemason for the rest of his life.
