At the time of his death, Tuna was living in Tarzana, California, where he had served as the citys Honorary Mayor since 1977.

Charlie worked for KBIG until it changed formats, and then he moved to KRTH, another Los Angeles radio station. He stayed at KRTH until 2015.
Charlie Tuna held a Tunathon to raise money every year for Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles. He is credited with raising millions of dollars.
Charlie Tuna passed away on February 19, 2016, two months away from what would have been his 72nd birthday on April 18.
