Trivia

Sometimes mistaken for actor Tom Bosley , who played Richie Cunninghams dad, Howard, in the TV series "Happy Days" , because of Doyles "Bosley" character on "Charlies Angels" , and a slight similarity in facial features, body type and voice.

Along with Jaclyn Smith , Doyle is the only other actor who remained with "Charlies Angels" for its complete five season run.

He provided the first voice of Grandpa on " "Rugrats" ". When he passed away, the Rugrats episode " "Rugrats" {Grandpas Bad Bug/Lady Luck (#5.1)} " was dedicated to him.

He played Eddie Applegate s father in "The Patty Duke Show" even though he was less than six years his senior.

Upon his death, he was cremated.

Adding to the whole confusion with actor Tom Bosley, was the fact that the name of Doyles character on "Charlies Angels" was "John" which, when said fast, sounded like "Tom." On "Charlies Angels," Doyles character - who was primarily heard only on the telephone and was rarely ever seen - would frequently introduce himself with the phrase "This is Bosley. John Bosley," at times often misunderstood as "This is Bosley. Tom Bosley.".
