Father of Doug Heyes Jr..
Enlisted in the U.S. Army on 21 April 1944 during World War II.
He was also an artist: painter (in oil, water colors, pen and ink), a sculptor, a novelist and author of non-fiction articles.
Wrote and directed 21 successful TV pilots. He helmed some of the most memorable and highly regarded early episodes of "The Twilight Zone" -- "The Twilight Zone" {The Invaders (#2.15)} , "The Twilight Zone" {Eye of the Beholder (#2.6)} , "The Twilight Zone" {The Howling Man (#2.5)} --as well as some of the best miniseries of the 1970s and 1980s, including "Captains and the Kings" and "North and South" .
