Erna Paris (* 1938) is a Canadian non-fiction author born in Toronto.After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto in Honours Philosophy and English, Paris moved to France for several years, where she continued her studies at the Sorbonne. She began her writing career in the 1970s as a magazine journalist and radio broadcaster/documentarist.Paris is the author of seven books and the winner of twelve national and international prizes. She lives in Toronto with her husband Thomas M. Robinson, professor emeritus of Ancient Greek Philosophy and Classics at the University of Toronto. At the end of this journey, it seems to me that reconciling the long shadows cast by the uneasy past may ultimately depend on elements so basic that they bring to mind a simple Slav proverb I once came across and never forgot: Eat bread and salt and speak the truth. They are the recovery of fact, public accountability and the instituting of fair trials of one sort or another, to help mark ends and beginnings and to return the moral compass as close to the centre as possible.
