RADA-trained Liverpudlian character actor, who specialised in portraying seedy or shifty working class types. Seen to best effect as Rex in "The Squirrels", boxing trainer Dave Locket in "Seconds Out" and as Orrible Ives in "Porridge".

Best known for his role as "Horrible" Ives alongside with Ronnie Barker in the British sitcom Porridge.

He started acting in amateur dramatics groups in Liverpool. He retired to Wales about 10 years ago before his death.

He was evacuated in 1942 at the height of WWII, along with two of his four brothers and sisters.

Father of Kevin Jones, Keith Jones and Karen R. Jones.

Grandfather of Morgan Jones.
