Biography

Matthew Murray graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts with a major in film and television production and a double minor in theatre studies and dramatic literature. He received his actor's training at Shakespeare & Co in Lenox, Ma and NY's American Globe Theatre. Previous regional stage credits include roles in The Winter's Tale . He provided various voices for the video game Grand Theft Auto III. In 2005 he was elected to the executive board of New York's Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art, where among other projects, he curated the popular "Saturday Morning: Art and Artifacts from a Golden Age of Television" and organized the lecture event/series "1986: The Year That Changed Comics." In 2007 he was named the third president and hired as the first executive director in the organization's history.

Son of Elizabeth L. Murray and James H. Murray of Brookeville, Maryland; son-in-law of Judith A. Eagan and Thomas V. Eagan of Coral Gables, Florida; Brother-in-law of James Eagan.

Born in Bethlehem, PA. Has a younger sister, Amanda (Murray) Fink, and a niece Tori Fink, and nephew Hayden Fink. Amanda and her husband Jeff Fink own a home theater/home automation company in the Lehigh Valley called Digital Oasis.His niece Tori, is an aspiring actress as well and has already appeared in an independent short film based on a Norman Rockwell painting when she was 7 years old.

Parents, Mike Murray and Patti (Chambers) Murray met in the Army, stationed at Fort Dix, NJ. His father Mike did three tours of duty in Vietnam. His mother Patti was a Records Specialist at Walson Army Hospital.

Has a great affinity for pit bulls. In November 2011, adopted a rescued blue nose he named Lunati Voodoo Mittens or Luna. She was found by police, burned, beaten, starved, and chained to an abandoned house. She was less than 40lbs when he first saw her, and is now 80lbs and very happy.

Predominantly of Irish descent, but also has Scottish, English, German, Swiss, and Cherokee ancestry.

When she was three years old, his niece Tori once saw him being arrested and removed from a house in handcuffs on a TV show. She was very upset, thinking it was the news and frantically asked, "Grandma! What did Uncle Matt do?" And it was then explained to her that it was just a TV show.

Grew up skateboarding with Christopher Budzynski, a principal dancer with the Pittsburg Ballet Theatre. Cites Christophers uncanny natural talent with art, music, and just about anything else hes done as a major positive influence and inspiration growing up. The two remain friends to this day.

Loves old muscle cars from the 60s and 70s. Particularly obsessed with Camaros. When he was born, his mother was driving a maroon 67 Camaro and his uncle Phil Foellner drove and raced an azure turquoise 69 RS Camaro. For years has been restoring a tuxedo black 69 Camaro with a 427 and an Muncie M-21 four speed with the help of his uncle and friends. As a nod to his uncles car, has the same custom wheels and steering wheel.

Is a self professed vintage skateboard geek. Still has over 20 of his old boards from his skating days and confesses to spending way too much time and money on eBay and other sites looking to score old boards. Is partial to old Powell Peralta and Zorlac decks from late 80s and early 90s. So far his best score has been a never mounted or skated 86 Steve Caballero Chinese dragon model in black dip.

Childhood friend of renowned Bucks County wood crafter Durham Holtmeier, of Durham Woodcrafting and has even been known to work at Durhams wood shop from time to time.

Big fan and friend of singer/songwriter Steve McDaniel.

Has worked as a bouncer for over a decade.

Is happiest spending time at home and hiking with his Rottweiler, Murphy and his Blue Nose Pit Bull, Luna.

Was once briefly credited for Matthew Owen Murrays work on a short film by mistake.

Was cast as an undead cannibal , then replaced by Michael Berryman, in a horror film that was ultimately never made.

The Smurfs 2 opens with Narrator Smurf reading from a pop-up book called "Smurfology." This is an indirect reference to Matt.s first book "The World of Smurfs" a pop-up book on the subject of "Smurfology" which was released in conjunction with The Smurfs .
