Paul Almond's television and movie productions have won numerous awards, including: 12 Canadian Film Awards , 3 Ohio State Awards and other international awards In 2001, Paul Almond was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada for having "demonstrated an outstanding level of talent and service to Canadians". In 2007, the Director's Guild of Canada presented Paul Almond with their Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to Canadian film and television.

After turning to feature filmmaking, he attracted domestic and international attention with Isabel , Act of the Heart and Journey (1972/I) , a trilogy of understated explorations of the mind and spirit starring then wife Genevive Bujold.
A graduate of Oxford University, he began his career by founding a traveling company of Shakespearean Players touring England, before joining the CBC in Toronto in 1954 as a director.
