Heavy-set British character actor, musician (saxophone, violin, vocal) and ballet dancer. Studied drama and dance in Liverpool and appeared in musical comedy on the stage during the 1930s. After wartime service, acted in films and on television, often appearing as pompous military or upper crust types.
