He was to play "Willie Mackay" in "Doctor Who" : The Highlanders but had to pull out and was replaced by Andrew Downie.
Peter Jackson used much of his unique look, mannerisms and facial expressions in the CGI character of "Smeagol/Gollum" in his "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Jackson remembered him from the UK television series, "Callan" , where his character "Lonely" was a lowlife informant criminal.
