Biography

Sarah Wayne Callies has made an indelible impression on audiences worldwide by bringing complex and unique female characters to life on screen. She can next be seen starring in National Geographic's forthcoming miniseries "The Long Road Home," opposite Michael Kelly, Kate Bosworth, Jason Ritter, and Noel Fisher. Based on Martha Raddatz's bestseller of the same name, the series chronicles the events of April 4th, 2004, when a platoon was ambushed in Sadr City, Baghdad, in an attack that came to be known as "Black Sunday." Callies takes on the lead part of LeAnn Volesky, a wife and leader in the family readiness community. "The Long Road Home" is slated to premiere in November 2017. Callies also currently stars on USA's drama series "Colony," opposite Josh Holloway. Hailed as "the most relevant show on TV" by VOX, Callies shines as Katie Bowman, a woman navigating dangerous ethical decisions to protect her family in occupied Los Angeles. "Colony" was created by Carlton Cuse for the last decade, helping to aid refugees worldwide. She has worked in their camps in Iraq, Jordan, Serbia, Macedonia, and Thailand and her blogs can be found on the Huffington Post. In 2010, Callies was named the first "voice" for the organization and helps spread her message across a current following of over 1.5 million people worldwide. Raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Callies attended Dartmouth College and obtained a Master of Fine Arts from Denver's National Theater Conservatory. She currently lives with her family in British Columbia, Canada.

Graduated from Punahou High School in 1995 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Graduated from Dartmouth College (in Hanover, New Hampshire) in 1999 with an undergraduate emphasis in Feminist Studies and a Senior Fellowship in Indigenous Theology.

Graduated from Denvers National Theater Conservatory in 2002 with a Master of Fine Arts.

Gave birth to her 1st child at age 30, a daughter named Keala Wayne Winterhalt on July 20, 2007. Childs father is her husband, Josh Winterhalt.

Her character Sara on "Prison Break" was written out of the shows third season because of her pregnancy. Sara was killed off, but was brought back for the fourth season. It was explained that her "death" was staged.

She is close friends with her "Prison Break" co-star, Wentworth Miller.

She was voted one of Maxims The Hottest Women of Fall TV 2008.

On July 21, 2002, Callies married Josh Winterhalt, whom she met at Dartmouth College. Winterhalt is a martial arts teacher.

She speaks basic Hawaiian and enjoys traditional Hawaiian music.

She likes dancing the Argentine tango and has taken up low-flying trapeze.

Currently are living between Atlanta, Canada and Los Angeles.

After the death of a family member she and her family moved to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1978.

She is the daughter of two University Professors, her father is a Law Professor and her mother is a English Professor at University of Hawaii.

After graduating from high school, she entered Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.

She continued her education at Denvers National Theater Conservatory, where she obtained her Master of Fine Arts degree in 2002.

In August 2010, Callies first screenplay, an adaptation of Campbell Geeslin s childrens book, "Elenas Serenade", was optioned by producer Cameron Lamb and French production company, Fulldawa Films.

Her maternal grandfather was a Hungarian Jewish immigrant. She also has German and Czech ancestry.
