Son of actor Ted French , grandson of Charles A. French.

Inducted (as a cast member of "Little House on the Prairie" ) into the Hall of Great Western Performers of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in 1998.

Victor French is the great uncle to TV/film actress Kristin M. Meade and was her inspiration to follow in his footsteps. Kristin always knew Victor as "Uncle Eddie" because of his role in Little House as Mr. Edwards, the towns silly wisecracking drunk.

Had three children: Victor Jr. (born 1960) and twins Kelly and Tracy French (born 1962). Tracy French appeared on the final episode of "Highway to Heaven" .
